BEGGING BOWL OF PAKISTAN

I heard President Trump has decided to cut off all the aid to Pakistan. Is this the best news for India in the New Year? Will it make a difference to us? I am convinced it definitely will. Will it make a difference to Pakistan? I am not sure at all. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating. I do welcome this move, as now the Americans have realised that the snakes they helped Pak tame are biting and increasing their body bag count. At least one President has had the guts and the gumption to call a spade a spade. I hope to see a shaken Pakistan. Actually, I desperately want to see the fall out of what happens once this policy is implemented. The amount is too huge; the impact should be colossal too. India too should follow suit, no MFN, no trade, no sports, no nothing, Period!

If this move breaks the barrier of their thinking that jihad and jihadist which they tame for Kashmir are terrorists and need to be eliminated, then this ban would be good. If this move changes Pakistan’s state policy against bleeding India with a thousand cuts changes, then this policy is good. If this ban stops them for enhancing their nuclear weapons capability, then it’s good. If this brings Pak to settle disputes with India, Afghanistan, Iran and Balochistan etc, then it’s good. If they return to true democracy, then it’s good.  If this also stops funding from other Islamic nations, then it’s good. If this initiative brings peace to this region there could be nothing better. I would rather say, if it brings Pak to its knees, India will be able to sort out lot of issues, including Kashmir.

The begging bowl of Pakistan has too many holes to plug. It actually has become a sieve. You give them aid; it starts to trickle down from the wrong holes into the wrong hands. I would like to know from some expert who can give out the details since 1947 as to how much aid has been given overtly or covertly, in cash or kind to Pakistan. If someone would care to elaborate the details on how, where and on what it was spent? Had there been peace that amount would definitely have made Pakistan the most developed and progressive nation in the world. The question is had there been “peace” no one would have funded them with such generosities. Had their politicians been clean all this money would have been spent on nation building rather than frittered away to wage a futile war?

They created a force against the Russians; the Americans helped them to the hilt. When America got a little nasty with Pak, they found a new ally in China. The Aid from Islamic countries continued unabated once they added “Islamic” to their preamble during General Zia-ul-haq’s time. The bowl alas never filled up due to gaping holes. The leaks continued and that is where Pakistan stands today. This totally porous country, where the rulers understood and capitalised on the weaknesses of the people which was “gurbat, jahaliyat, gareebi & berozgari”, (illiteracy, backwardness, poverty, unemployment) sucked out its wealth slowly and steadily. The people of Pakistan were ruled by the Army for most of their lives. The Army played its cards and kept the politicians under tight control and dictated their way the state should function. Democracy is only on papers it seems.

Today, those little holes in the bowl have widened. There is actually no control and accountability of this money coming and to where it is going. To stabilise their country they find destabilising their neighbours like India, an easier and better option in the name of jihad and specifically jihad for Kashmir. I actually don’t understand how many jihads they can fight, on how many fronts and how many jihadist organisations they can control.

The fact of the matter is that today Pakistan needs to be liberated from the clutches of its narrow anti India thinking, from its jihadist mentality, from being hostile to its neighbours, from its corrupted systems and politicians, from its control of the Army, from aligning itself with all those who are enemies’ of  an enemy. How will it be done? This ban should be the first step I suppose.

Pakistan actually needs to fight its battle within, plug all the holes of this bowl so that all the efforts are done for the good of its people. In the same breadth it needs to leave India alone just for one decade. Can Pakistan help us by changing their mentality? Pak should accept that it cannot match India in anyways so it must concentrate internally. For that first cleanse your systems, earlier the better.

Just a passing thought, you will soon be kicked by everyone like this because “Laton ke bhoot baton se nahi mante”. I know your ego will not allow bringing peace to this region but “jab paregi laat tabhi banegi baat”. Remember, the day the bowl’s holes are plugged; you will have more to eat and more to spend. Will you ever understand? I wonder!!!!!!!!!!

BAN EVERYTHING CHINESE

I have been seeing posts and videos saying that let us stop buying Chinese products. This Diwali we shall not use any lights or Rakhi’s made in China. Instead some people are emphatically propagating to buy pure Indian products only. Well, we have been hearing of make in India, made in India, made for India, made by Indians and many such slogans. The reality is that we in India do not make goods which match the prices of Chinese goods. What we make don’t even last as long as a made in China product. The quality in our products is lacking. Cost of our product is also unaffordable, thus forcing us to look for alternatives elsewhere. We Indians also have a tendency to buy products which have an imported stamp. It may be made in Korea, US or Timbuktu; we love to buy that stuff or am I conjecturing too much. This, the inner voice in you can only tell.

Let us see the car purely made in India. The poor Ambassador has finally died its own death. The old work horse of the taxi people and the Indian Army, Hindustan Motors finally shut shop. HMT watches, where are they? I wore one with pride many moons back. Today, we hear of Bharat-Benz, Maruti-Suzuki, Ashok-Leyland, Swaraj-Mazda etc. These names are related to a foreign product or are in partnership with them. So are many of the banks. The Fords, Toyotas, Mercs and Hondas are pure foreign brands. Computers too are assembled in India. Name a brand which is pure Indian in mobiles or doesn’t use imported products in its components. For industries many chemicals are ex-import, technology is ex import, raw material too is ex import. Lesser said the better.

Take apparels, take cosmetics, take any product and you will find a foreign hand in that. I am not propagating Baba Ramdev products, though I love his biscuits and Sarson ka tel but just food for thought that we love to enjoy all things foreign. How many of us wear Khadi? I am sure there would be many. Our markets opened up, our currency stood its ground and products which were unheard of in India now are available at affordable prices.

Take the defence equipment. Aircrafts are American, French or Russian, tanks are Russian, missiles from Israel; war ships and submarines are from Britain, Russia or France. Bofors is ex import, Tatra is ex import, BMP is ex import, most of our ammunition is ex import, special clothing is ex import, parachutes are ex import but our land is indigenous. AK-47, bullet proof jackets are ex import, but our spirit to operate all these is pure Indian. We just won the tank competition in Russia standing first amongst 19 countries driving and firing the Russian T-90. I salute all our tank men in black dungarees for this achievement. We adapt ourselves to any equipment very quickly and master its use.

If we talk of the trade deficit with China, it stands at around 46.7 billion dollars today. My goodness Gracious Lord, this must be many ship load full of dollars. How will we get out of it? How will we reduce it? How will we find means to balance it out? Well there are many economists who will work it out for us. The figure of those many billions appears as if India has to pay back China that amount. If we don’t pay we all are going to die by the Chinese torture method. The feeling this word trade deficit gives me is as if we are sunk and the burden to return that money back is my responsibility. Soon time will come when the atta we eat would be Chinese. As it is they are making artificial rice, eggs and vegetables. Well, I have the PM & the Industries Minister to look into the specifics of trade and the Finance Minister to pay for all that. Should I bother?

Be that as it may, the fact of the matter is we are importing more and exporting less. This doesn’t mean that we are not paying for what we are importing. Only thing is that we are not earning as many dollars as we should be earning through export. Let us start producing world class stuff so that it gets consumed within the domestic markets and meets the needs of our population and export. Today, if we even have to import dal, wheat and onions, isn’t it an irony. We have not been able to make cold storage chains to preserve our surplus. Our grains rot in FCI godowns and we talk of trade deficit.

Well friends by just boycotting Chinese products we are doing a lot of harm to the traders who have already paid for it. The item is already in India, it has been paid for because we only demanded it. Some trader facilitated it. We got things at price of dirt. The trader also made a profit. It did not hurt your pocket either and now suddenly you say that don’t but anything made in China. Is it fair? Let’s give a date after which all Chinese imports officially are stopped? Traders to dispose of items till a particular date, then take him to task. I say let us stop buying anything imported. Period!

Let us get after the government to set up a mechanism so that imported items are banned till the Indian mindset gets used to using and enjoying everything Indian. All trade deficits will evaporate. Today we export Iron ore. Is there a justification for it? Why this product can’t be used in house and iron made cheaper for iron and steel industry to flourish. Why do we allow import of scrap and kill this industry. Then as a stop gap measure we increase the import duty on iron scrap so that the domestic market picks up. This is only a knee jerk reaction with no long term strategy in place.

Well it is not as simple as I am portraying it. Can we exchange products for manpower? I don’t know. By boycotting things won’t resolve issues with China. By setting up a clear goal for use of Indian products vis-a-vis Chinese and other imported products can we sort this out?  China has banned whatsapp and twitter. Do it in India and see the results. Half of us will be on the verge of committing suicide if not murder. I have also seen posts on calculations of the number of products, revenue generated from it and how if we stop it will hurt China. Agreed, if you don’t buy from one shop then you have to have an alternative. Similarly, China will look for another client for its products. It definitely has the capacity to survive without selling to us. So let us make classy Indian products at affordable prices for the common man. Can we? I wonder!!!!!!!

FINDING THE RIGHT SOLUTION TO KASHMIR

I was listening to Mehboobaji on the issue of Article 356 and the flag of J&K. I thereafter heard various discussions on what she said, what she meant, what does it signify, what does it imply etc and made my own conclusions which I shall reveal as this article unfolds. Is she right? I doubt, but if she is wrong, then there is an issue of a very large scale brewing to explode. I am convinced Kashmiri’s can only give a solution for Kashmir. But are all Kashmiri’s on the same grid? Is the present J&K Govt on the same grid with the Govt in Delhi? I as a common man feel that communication is lacking. There is a weak effort to resolve what needs to be done. Calling for a plebiscite doesn’t work in democracy. When you madam represent the people of Kashmir, (if you really represent them), then tell us where do you stand and the measures you propose to stop this mayhem. Expecting only Central Govt to give solutions is passing the buck.

I say if there needs to be a plebiscite, let there be one with a question that do these elected representatives actually represent the voices and aspirations of Kashmiri people? If not then who are their real representatives, solution to Kashmir will automatically start evolving. Are these leaders of Kashmir capable enough to lead their people? The picture will start getting clearer. If war is not a solution and talks are the only solution then let us talk internally first. Today we are falling in our own trap, where the political parties of J&K especially of K, the separatists and the terrorists are taking advantage of our lack of clarity amongst us as to what to do, with whom, when and why.

Be that as it may, let Mehboobaji keep her flag and article 356 for the time being. Can she give out a road map to solutions to the Kashmir problem? Let her speak to the “stake holders” in our Kashmir, what they want and discuss with the PM that this is how it needs to be implemented. Let her, Omar and Farookh sit across the table with all those who believe in India as their nation and tell how are they going to seal the borders? How is she going to stop terror funding? How is she going to convince the Hurriat to forget Azadi and come under the tricolour? Let her give a method to convince and control the stone pelters. Let her government take over the internal situation of Kashmir and show she can govern and protect everyone fairly and effectively, rather than only giving the consequences of removal of the articles.

Yes the Central government should continue all its support like hither to fore. Let Mehboobaji give a manner she proposes for employment generation other than Sarkari naukris. Let her reveal plans as to how she will develop tourism, fisheries, agriculture, power, infrastructure, industry etc and set a time frame to address these issues to wean away unemployed youth from nonsense. Simply by sucking Central Govt of funds and resources and leaving Kashmir to be governed by God doesn’t work out. She has the mandate, she has to do it. She needs to create history. She has to have her intelligence grid going and sorting out those who throw stones or fire weapons or support such things, after all the J&K flag flutters today because the Tiranga flutters there, is there a doubt?

Let her come up with a method of utilising her state forces. CAPFs and Indian Armed forces deployed for the protection of the state may be utilised if she needs them. I feel we need to take a big chance if we agree to withdraw all central forces. Let Mr Rajnath and her sit down and plan with the civilian “Mehakma” how to police and keep every citizen safe from harm’s way. I would rather say it would be an ideal opportunity for the armed forces to take a breather. I know my military expert friends shall shoot me down that this will give the militants a breather to regroup and rejuvenate. So be it friends. Imagine by then all terror funding would have stopped. All people with separatist tendencies put in the clink, all hawala money choked, traced out and seized if possible. Infiltration as good as zero as the armed forces would be able to beef up the borders, all those infiltrating through the third country would be scared enough to take a chance to reach Kashmir alive.

Won’t police operations by the sons of the soil stop stone pelters? Stone pelters may not do so to their own kith and kin. Locals if taken on board will reveal most of the caches or routes to them thus bringing a halt to availability of arms and ammunition. Even if many of them take up arms, good for us. Now the forces can take them on without hesitation with definite information available. Moment militants engage security forces they will ensure they are dead meat. The residual militants thus get wiped out. Let it be deterrence for future militants. Let us give them a lose rope to hang themselves. Pakistan by then should be warned to be prepared for some roughing up with every breach and every cease fire violation. You do mischief, we would slap you hard, needs to be conveyed loud and clear.

All this needs meticulous planning, guts and decisions which can be game changers. The key issue remains getting Mehboobaji and gang to get on the job. Today, I find the home minister running up and down, political leaders visiting without reason, Army Chief meeting her for courtesy sake? Let us stop it. Today, there is a government, there is state machinery, there are the people who want peace but there is no strong will and clear intention to sort out this mess. Each day of delay is costing money, resources and precious lives. They are Indian lives, our people. Because getting martyred has become routine doesn’t mean that this should be allowed to continue. If every life counts, out of box solutions have to be found by Mehboobaji first and now.

I heard General Musharaff on a channel who clearly stated that Pak will do Kargil like operations again. He also stated that they call those people mujahedeen whom we call terrorists and this India and US need to understand, they won’t. He also was emphatic about CPEC which is already in advanced stages of construction. If it hurts India, Pak will do it. Let’s be clear then whom are we dealing with. All this people to people contact, aman ki asha chaps wake up. Indian Biryani is far better.

We need to sort out our internal Kashmir thing first and fast. We need the present J&K government on its toes besides being careful of Pak at all times. We have the wherewithal to make it happen. Mehboobaji aur Modiji, Abhi nahi to Kabhi nahi, will you please take note of it, I wonder!!!!!!!!!!

THE SPOILT BRAT IN OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

I have this bad habit of listening to discussions happening in the Pakistani media after major events. So I thought let me see their reactions to the banning of seven Muslim states from the US. One thing was clear, that Pakistan has lost its sleep since then as they could be the next country to be banned. They were saying that the US has now come under the influence of India, and they kept blaming their own foreign office for doing nothing as there is no foreign minister. Nawaz Sharif they say is too busy sorting out the Panama leaks so is not interested. Their lobbying with the US has failed. Well, they can keep conjecturing what they feel is correct and stay in that state of stupor. Have they identified their basic problem? No. They are an independent country so to say, and they have all the right to mislead their own public or to live in a make belief world. Choice is yours Pakistan.

Due to the above effect Pak put Hafeez Saeed under house arrest but still blame India to influence the US who put pressure on Pakistan along with China to bring him to justice. You are also now questioning China who should have stood against this decision, as they are the closest allies of Pakistan due to the AF-PAK corridor and the Gwadar port. Well Pakistan, you don’t realise that China has its own interests. They will change your demography soon, just wait and watch. Pakistan will be taking permission to use its own highway and you may not be allowed to unload even a tonne of material at your own port if push comes to shove. Good luck friends. It is your own deeds or misdeeds which are isolating you from the world, so just for cosmetics sake arresting this guy and still allow him to continue to spew venom for the liberation of Kashmir will not change the world opinion.

I have a soft corner for the sane voices of Pakistan who at least have the guts and the gumption to show the mirror to the state, but they are on the hit list of the government and the separatist groups. Pakistan does not realise that we are in 2017 and not in 1947. The world has moved on by 70 years. If Pakistan wants to stay in the prehistoric era they are more than welcome, if they do not want to change, choice is theirs. If they cannot understand why peace is not prevailing on our borders, then they should keep blaming themselves. If they think that by aligning themselves to the US or China they will bail them out and resuscitate them from all poverty, then they can keep dreaming. Now when the Muslim world is putting Pakistan into its correct slot by disconnecting with their thought process including funding, should definitely be a wakeup call. Even though their Ex-Army Chief has been offered the post of head of the Islamic Military Alliance to fight against terrorism; nothing is going to change till the time you keep differentiating between good and bad Taliban.

The AF-PAK corridor is a huge-huge investment by China in terms of money, assets, projects, infrastructure worth billions of dollars. All this will be built on a low interest loan to Pakistan. Will Pakistan be able to pay back even the interest to China? Well, what happens if you take a vehicle and hypothecate it to a bank, or you take it on loan from a finance company and you fail to pay the instalment in time? If you continue to default, they take your vehicle away till the time you don’t make the payment or they sell it off and make good the money to recover whatever they can. Now imagine for a thermal power project, or a gas project or a road project Pak fails to return the interest and China decides to ban any Pakistani vehicles to even use it. It has the means and the forces to ensure the same, where will Pakistan run then. Food for thought dear Pakistan, wake up.

Till date can Pakistan name any mega project they started which has not failed? Few days back they have started their metro bus, well, you haven’t grown beyond the donkey carts. Talk about education, lesser said the better. Talk about poverty, talk about electrification, talk about anything and compare it with the size and population with India, Pakistan stands nowhere. If we see corruption, you beat us hands down. We accept defeat straight away in this. Poor Nawaz Sharif when questioned about the millions of dollars worth of assets and properties across the globe, which was bought out of Pakistani money and loans revealed in the panama leaks, he replies, in those days no one kept records. Ok argument taken, then he goes on to say all transactions were in cash, so how many donkey loads were transferred out. Well your guess is as good as mine. Then he goes on to say, it was given to my father and grandfather, so you may please interrogate their graves. Nawaz further says, I am enjoying the fruits they had sown. Well is there anything more left to say.

All of us do come across someone in our lives who acts too smart. He changes stances and statements at the drop of a hat, is totally untrustworthy, is basically a liar. He can tell lies to the highest authorities without batting an eyelid. He has a set of friends whom he knows may ditch him, but sticks to them forcibly. He cannot vibe with neighbours. He brings in people from other “mohallaas” to add to the local politics, and then thinks everyone should believe him. He has links with “Goonda’s” and uses them sometimes, and when they all are beaten black and blue he stays quite for a little while till he finds another opportunity to hit back. He has a “mole” within our family. He feeds him, instigates him and supports him to revolt against his own family on borrowed funds but the family is well united and does not let his rotten plan work. We do have a person in our lives with three or more such qualities; above all he has never been to a proper school except a “Madarasa”. He doesn’t have a proper job. He lives on loans and grants given by friends. He keeps begging for more from rich people. His family members are in rags and tatters, uneducated, mal nourished and unemployed. Which country qualifies with all the above qualities? Keep guessing!

Let us get rid of such a creation, let us get our house in order to stop this person to incite us. Let us at times give him a solid thrashing if he goes beyond a limit. Let us get the people whom he approaches for money to stop funding as he is going to utilize it for illegal activities. Let this person die his own death. I am sure most of my friends would have got at what I am hinting at, but will my government and the world understand that the root cause of all issues in this region is only one rogue child: can you guess the name, I wonder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
